Visual Overlay on OpenStreetMap Data to Support Spatial Exploration of Urban Environments
نویسندگان
چکیده
Increasing volumes of spatial data about urban areas are captured and made available via volunteered geographic information (VGI) sources, such as OpenStreetMap (OSM). Hence, new opportunities arise for regional exploration that can lead to improvements in the lives of citizens through spatial decision support. We believe that the VGI data of the urban environment could be used to present a constructive overview of the regional infrastructure with the advent of web technologies. Current location-based services provide general map-based information for the end users with conventional local search functionality, and hence, the presentation of the rich urban information is limited. In this work, we analyze the OSM data to classify the geo entities into consequential categories with facilities, landscape and land use distribution. We employ a visual overlay of heat map and interactive visualizations to present the regional characterization on OSM data classification. In the proposed interface, users are allowed to express a variety of spatial queries to exemplify their geographic interests. They can compare the characterization of urban areas with respect to multiple spatial dimensions of interest and can search for the most suitable region. The search experience is further enhanced via efficient optimization and interaction methods to support the decision making of end users. We report the end user acceptability and efficiency of the proposed system via usability studies and performance analysis comparison. ISPRS Int. J. Geo-Inf. 2015, 4 88

FlowSampler: Visual Analysis of Urban Flows in Geolocated Social Media Data
Analysis of flows such as human movement can help spatial planners better understand territorial patterns in urban environments. In this paper, we describe FlowSampler, an interactive visual interface designed for spatial planners to gather, extract and analyse human flows in geolocated social media data. Our system adopts a graph-based approach to infer movement pathways from spatial point typ...
متن کاملPotential site selection in ecotourism planning using spatial decision support tool
Northern areas of Pakistan have blessed with extremely beautiful natural landscapes, waterfalls, glaciated mountains, biodiversity rich valleys and forests and have extraordinary potential for ecotourism. Study is designed to propose potential sites for ecotourism in Kohistan, which is a least developed but biodiversity rich area of Pakistan. Poor planning and mismanagement of tourism practice...
متن کاملVisual Preferences of Small Urban Parks Based on Spatial Configuration of Place
The importance of small urban parks (SUP) in mega cities has been accepted as an essential component of urban lung and restorative settings. As urban population in the world increases and the cost of maintaining large parks escalates, urban authorities are shifting their attention to creating and maintaining smaller urban parks. However, SUP may present a different ambience due to their locatio...
متن کاملExtending OpenStreetMap to Indoor Environments: Bringing Volunteered Geographic Information to the Next Level
Extensive and high-quality geographic data sources are important for any kind of spatial analysis or application, especially in the field of urban data management. In the last couple of years, Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) has increasingly gained attractiveness not only to amateur users, but also to professionals in the geoinformation industry. Different VGI communities evolved and e...
متن کاملDiscrimination of Iron High Potential Zones at the Zaghia Iron Ore Deposit, Bafq, Using Index Overlay GIS Method
GIS is considered an important technique as well as a prerequisite for cost effective mineral exploration and determination of high potential areas. The purpose of this research is to determine high potential iron zones for detailed exploration using index overlay GIS method. Index Overlay was used to combine the geology, topography (scale: 1:1,000), lineaments, remote sensing (ASTER and ETM+) ...
